Many
is a small town in Sabine Parish in northwest Louisiana. The population is approximately 2,900 residents. Many was originally established in 1843 as a trading post and much of its French, Spanish and American Indian heritage is still visible in the community today. The town was named for John B. Many, commander of nearby Fort Jesup. The Fort Jesup State Historic Site contains an original log kitchen and replica of the officers barracks house with historical artifacts and exhibits. The town of Many is also near the Hodges Gardens State Park, located on U.S. 171 between Hornbeck and Florien in Sabine Parish. Previously called the Hodges Gardens Park and Wilderness Area, the park is 4,700 acres with more than 40 acres of beautiful gardens, a 225-acre bass fishing lake, hiking and biking trails and RV and wilderness camping. The facility has outstanding formal gardens, an arboretum, the Azalea Overlook, waterfalls and a visitor center. It was originally privately owned and opened to the public in 1956, but became part of the Louisiana public parks system in April, 2007. Hodges Gardens State Park is open daily from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. The town of Many is also just a short drive to Toledo Bend Lake, a popular reservoir for fishing, boating and camping.

West central Louisiana has a humid subtropical climate. Rainfall is abundant with the normal annual rain just over 51 inches. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible in spring and summer. The winter months are normally mild with an average of 39 days of freezing or below-freezing temperatures per year, though ice and sleet storms do occur. Summer months are very warm and humid, with temperatures exceeding 95 degrees about 32 days per year. High to very high relative average humidity sometimes exceeds the 90 percent level.
