New Orleans Weather & Climate

Southeastern Louisiana has a semi-tropical climate that usually remains constant throughout the year. This part of the state that is in close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico tends to be very humid with lots of rainfall, and little difference between summer and winter conditions. Average rainfall per year is 56 to 60 inches. New Orleans, for example, is hot and humid for the majority of the year, with well over 180 days of sunshine annually. Southeastern Louisiana is prone to hurricanes, with the month of June being the start of hurricane season. Plenty of warning time is generally given for these types of severe storms.
