Jennings
is a small town of approximately 11,000, located in Jefferson Davis Parish in southwestern Louisiana. It's located on Interstate 10 about halfway between Lake Charles and Lafayette. Jennings is known as the Cradle of Louisiana Oil, due to the state's first oil well being located in the Jennings Field. The area has a diversity of cultures and Jennings is home to excellent Cajun restaurants, a world-renowned fine arts museum, a turn-of-the-century general store museum and a museum dedicated to the history of the telephone. Jennings also offers historic homes and buildings, scenic wetlands and parks, majestic oak and cypress groves, antique shops and eclectic gift shops. Recreational activities in the area include hiking, boating, fishing and hunting. Jennings is home to a Main Street Farmers Market every Saturday that offers fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as handmade crafts. The Freddie Pates Jamboree features live country music the last Saturday of every month. Other special events in Jennings includes a Christmas Parade & Festival, and the Annual Christmas Festival Gumbo Cook-Off, where you can sample some of the best chicken & sausage gumbo in the state, and enjoy live entertainment and fireworks.

Southwest Louisiana's climate generally remains constant throughout the year. The weather is warm and wet year round, with hot and humid conditions in the summertime. Winters are pleasant and sunny, with the possibility of rain showers. Snow and ice are rare in the state, although there have been a few incidences of light snow. Southwest Louisiana has a high annual rainfall, most of it falling in late summer, often as a spin-off from tropical storms. Heavy rain during the June to September Gulf Coast hurricane season has caused flooding in the region on occasion.
