Alexandria
is located on the south bank of the Red River in the geographic center of the state of Louisiana. The population is approximately 50,000 residents. Described as "big city living in a small town," Alexandria offers a wide range of amenities and attractions. Outdoor activities on the river and in nearby Kistachie National Forest include fishing and boating, hiking, camping and hunting. Alexandria is also home to world-class golf, a dude ranch that offers guided horseback trail rides, and tours of Spring Bayou, which is one of Louisiana's most scenic waterways. Historic attractions include the Southern Forest Heritage Museum and Research Center, which includes a historic 57-acre sawmill and company town, complete with picnic areas and a nature trail. Rides are also available on the Red River and Gulf Railroad. Other sites to see include the Alexandria Museum of Art, the Alexandria Zoological Park, and the River Oaks Art Square. The town of Alexandria has a motto, "You can see Louisiana from here," with its location just two hours from Shreveport and Baton Rouge and three hours to New Orleans. Historic Natchez is just 90 minutes away, across the great Mississippi River.

Central Louisiana has a humid subtropical climate with some continental influence in the wintertime. Summers are very hot and humid and winters are pleasant and mild. Occasional cold snaps are possible in winter, but they do not last long. Central Louisiana receives plentiful rainfall year round and snowfalls in this area are rare. Tropical storms and hurricanes have an influence on the weather in central Louisiana, but do not impact it as much as areas closer to the coast. Some low-lying regions may experience flooding during rainstorms.
