St-Francisville
is a town in West Feliciana Parish in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population is approximately 1,800. Established in 1809, St. Francisville is said to be a town two miles long and two yards wide. It has a lovely location set on a bluff along the Mississippi River. Due to the rivers slowly shifting course, several of the buildings in the town today were moved up the hill from the town of Bayou Sara, which had been founded on the east bank of the river in 1790 and was once the largest shipping port on the Mississippi between Natchez and New Orleans. St. Francisville was the capital of the short-lived Republic of West Florida in 1810.Sarah Knox Taylor, daughter of Zachary Taylor and wife of Jefferson Davis, stayed in St. Francisville as a newlywed for three months until her untimely death in 1835 and she is buried in the town. St. Francisville has many plantation homes that are on the National register of Historic Places, including the Myrtles Plantation, Rosedown Plantation, Greenwood Plantation, Butler Greenwood Plantation and more. The town also hosts the annual Angola Prison Rodeo in April and October. The rodeo offers arts and crafts made by the inmates and well as the different rodeo events.

East central Louisiana, near the Mississippi River, has a subtropical climate that is warm and wet year round. This region experiences rain showers all year round, high temperatures and humidity during summer, and generally warm, sunny weather in the wintertime. The weather can be unpredictable in southeast Louisiana, and cold spells have been experienced in winter, but snowfall is rare. The best time to visit the area is between February and April, when the heat and humidity are not at peak levels. June is the start of hurricane season, but plenty of warning time is given for these types of storms.
